Rotterdam and beyond

So let's carry on from where we left off in Rotterdam. We had just visited Delft and Den Hague (only to find out that everything is closed on Mondays). So the next day we went back, and went straight to the Mauritshuis museum. They have a small, but comprehensive collection of the Dutch masters, and two excellent paintings by Vermeer - one of them being the "Girl with the Pearl Earring". They also had a very cool Rembrandt self-portrait, and had a good exhibition showing the restoration of some Rembrandt paintings. If you happen to be in The Hague anytime soon, you should check it out. :)

So after that we went to the M.C. Escher museum. Also excellent. They showed some of this designs for advertisements he did before getting into his pure art. They also had a virtual reality show where you flew through an Escher universe... it hurts your brain a bit, but in a good way.

The following day we headed out to Maastricht (where we would catch our flight to Berlin), but not before we saw the captivating cube houses in Rotterdam. Not much to explain here... just look at the pictures.

So we took the train to Maastricht, but didn't get there in time to do much, so we just walked around. Oh, we got some Belgian waffles, but I figured we were close enough so it can be considered local cuisine. Regardless, they were delicious!

So we took the bus to the tiny airport and caught the little plane headed for big Berlin...

Are you sure that cubed house wasn't in the Escher museum?

Hey, this time I was going to post first, but the computer ate my words of wisdom. Anyway, something about living in the Tower of Pisa, and the houses being more suitable for Switzerland, (or Escher Museum); kudos to the architect, nevertheless.

Your mother and I saw some similarily weird architecture in East Germany along the Elbe River. My guess is that it is the same architect or one who comes from the same school.
