The Ugly House...because it is so cute
Here is the story about the Ugly House. I think it is cute enough and interesting enough to deserve its own post.
The "Ugly House" was built and inhabited in one day. It was a "Ty Un Nos" or "House of the Night". The "Ugly House" (Ty Hyll in Welsh) was built around 1475. At the time, a loophole in the law allowed a tenant to own the property if he could build a house complete with fireplace and chimney between sunrise and sunset and have smoke coming out of the chimney. Using undressed boulders, local brothers completed the task to take possession, not only of the stone building, but also of the land upon which it stood for as far as they could throw an axe from each side of the house.

Imagine such loop-holes existed in the current law. I think it would be a great way to spend a night.
too bad that law doesn't exist today -- that would be AWESOME!!
i look forward to "trekking" with you guys!
Now you can build your own house in Jan/2007. I can loan you a couple of axes.
